Topics of SOEP-IS by Questionnaire

On this page, you can view the basic topics covered in our survey, organized by questionnaire year and with links to the corresponding variables. 


Due to various changes in how the data is generated and documented, the questionnaires before 2022 are less comprehensive 
and less systematically organized than those from the more recent years starting in 2022. Furthermore, only the main questionnaire for the 
respective year is considered. If one or more separate questionnaires were surveyed besides the main questionnaire, they are not included here. 
Please note that this is not a complete list of all questions/variables, but merely the most common ones. For a comprehensive overview of all 
the content in a questionnaire, we recommend viewing the questionnaires directly (see chapter* ":ref:`Questionnaires Overview`"). 
Generated variables (e.g., from the pgen/hgen datasets) are not included here either; only direct survey data is listed.

The tables for each survey year consist of the following five columns:

- **questionnaire:** Indicates, in which part of the overall questionnaire the questions were located (e.g. household / individual / biography / children). (For the early years, “Unspecified” is often listed here. However, the dataset for the respective variables often provides an indication as to which part of the questionnaire was involved.)
- **module:** The headings of the question sections from the questionnaire are displayed here. In earlier years, these were not consistently managed.
- **maintopic:** Here, the general topic of the questions/variables is provided.
- **subtopic:** If possible, the topic will be narrowed down further.
- **variable:** Links to variables of current data release.
